RCMP: Arsonists target houses of worship in Merritt area

Mounties in Merritt are investigating a string of arsons and attempted arsons targeting churches in the Nicola Valley, according to a report from CTV News Vancouver. Four of the fires Friday happened in the
span of a few hours according to a report from danilposh.com.

“I’m just devastated this morning,” Dorothy Jordan told CFJC Today shortly after a church arson in the Nicola valley. “Just feels like a little part of the community is gone,” she said.

The Murray United Church building, a nearly 150-year-old structure, is among those destroyed by the arsonist or arsonists.

Investigators have not yet determined the motive behind the attacks. Anyone with information about any of the fires is asked to call the RCMP at 250-978-4262.
